Global Culture: Who Has Lost
Their Marbles?

Publication, 2020
Supervised by Dan Milne

Global Culture is a fictional newspaper feature liftout. This issue, titled Who Has Lost their Marbles?, explores the ongoing controversy and arguments relating to the removal of the Parthenon Marbles from Greece to Britain in the early nineteenth century.

An exercise in typography and layout, there needed to be visual variety to engage the reader while maintaining overall visual consistency. Display typeface Bely was used in headlines, reflective of the boldness, classical elegance and significance of the sculptures, and paired with a Bely body text face and sans-serif Lab Grotesque for image captions. Working with larger scale spreads, balance needed to be established between the elements, particularly the varied type and text content, but also the striking imagery. Printed on 55gsm stock.
